Exploring Architecture

We have had the pleasure of Isabella Fasciani (studying at Richard Huish College) working with us this week building on her existing understanding of the architectural profession.

During the week Isabella designed a bespoke project for Bluewave Construction (Taunton) and will be meeting with the client to discuss the plans in the next few weeks.

We’ve been delighted with Isabella’s aptitude to learning and she’s proven to be a real asset to our company.

PERMITTED DEVELOPMENT - GREAT NEWS FOR HOMEOWNERS

Since 2013, under a permitted Development relaxation, homeowners could construct larger single storey rear extensions through a Prior Notification application, with neighbour’s consultation.

Under the rules, homeowners can construct a single-storey rear extension of up to six metres (previously 3m) for terraced or semi-detached homes, or eight metress (previously 4m) for detached homes.  The scheme was extended in 2016 until May 2019.

The good news is it’s here to stay!

The purpose of the legislation has been to relieve pressure on the national housing market and demand for new homes which has led to UK property price explosions since 2009.  By allowing often small homes to be improved to modern day demands and quality of life, through sizable rear extensions and loft conversions, families do not have to buy a different home.

In and around London it is much more cost effective to extend your home.  If you have been living in the same neighbourhood for 10-15 years the housing price boom witnessed up to 2016 could make it very hard to afford a larger home within your locality, however the capital value gained could facilitate a mortgage extension which can finance the improvements to your home.
